1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains what information Rig Patrol ("we," "us") collects when you use our marketplace for adventure vehicles, campers, trailers, and gear, and how we use, share, and protect it. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here. When you create an account, you confirm by checking a box that you have read this Policy and our Terms of Service. Rig Patrol is run from the United States and is meant for people in the United States and Canada. Your information is stored and processed in the United States.

2. Information We Collect

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and a password (which is hashed — we never see or store it in plain text). We email you to confirm your address and to reset your password if you ask.

Listing information. When you publish a listing, we store the details you provide: title, category, price, location, vehicle or gear specifications, description, and any photos you upload. We also look up approximate map coordinates for the location you enter and store them with the listing so buyers can search by distance.

Messages to sellers. When you contact a seller through a listing, your name, email address, and message are sent directly to that seller's email inbox. We do not store the content of these messages in our database — they pass through momentarily to be delivered and are not retained by us afterward. To prevent spam and abuse, we do keep a short-lived record of each message sent — the sender's IP address, the sender's email address, and which listing it was for, but not the message text — and delete it automatically after 7 days.

What other people can see. Your listings are public: anyone can see the title, description, photos, price, approximate location, and details you publish, whether or not they have an account. Listings show only a "Private Seller" or "Business" label. Your name and email address are not shown on a listing. Anyone can send you a message about a listing, and that message arrives in your inbox.

Favorites and saved searches. If you save a listing as a favorite or save a search, we store that so you can find it again. If you turn on email alerts for a saved search, we use your email address to send you new matches. You can turn alerts off or delete a saved search at any time in My Account.

Business interest forms. If you fill in an interest form on the Rentals, Conversion Companies, or Retailers pages, we store the business name, your name, your email address, and any city or note you add. Only Rig Patrol administrators can see it, and we use it to contact you about Rig Patrol.

Emails we send. We send the emails that run the service, such as email confirmation, password reset, and updates about your listings. We do not send marketing emails.

Reports. If you report a listing, we store your chosen reason, any details you add, your email address if you choose to give one, and your IP address (used to limit abuse), so we can review the listing and follow up. Only Rig Patrol administrators can see reports.

Basic technical data. Our hosting and infrastructure providers (see Section 4) may automatically log standard technical information like IP address and browser type, as most websites do, for security and reliability purposes. If a page of the site hits a technical error in your browser, we may record the error message, the page address (without any query string), your browser type, and your IP address (to limit abuse), and delete it after 30 days. We also use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights to count page views and measure how fast pages load; these don't use cookies and don't track you across other websites.

Tagged links. If you arrive through a link we have tagged (for example from our Instagram page), we record which link it was, the page you landed on, and the time, so we can see which of our posts bring people to the site. We don't record your name or email address for this and don't set a cookie; your IP address is stored only to limit abuse. These records are deleted after 90 days.

3. How We Use Information

To create and manage your account, and let you log in securely.
To display your listings to other users.
To deliver messages from interested buyers directly to your email.
To respond to support requests you send us.
To keep the Service secure and prevent abuse, including limiting how many messages can be sent.
To understand how the site is used and keep it fast.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we don't currently use your data for advertising or targeted marketing.

We may share information when the law requires it, in response to a valid legal request, or when we believe it is needed to protect someone's safety or to investigate fraud. If Rig Patrol is sold or reorganized, the information we hold may be transferred to the new owner, who must follow this Policy for it.

4. Third-Party Service Providers

We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run Rig Patrol, each of which processes data on our behalf:

Supabase — our database, authentication, and photo storage provider.
Resend — delivers the emails we send: messages from buyers to sellers, and account emails such as sign-up confirmation and password reset.
Cloudflare Turnstile — a bot check that runs on sign-up, log-in, password reset, and the contact-seller form. It shares your IP address and browser details with Cloudflare to tell people from bots.
Vercel — hosts the Rig Patrol website, serves and resizes listing photos, and provides our cookieless analytics and performance measurement.

These providers only access data as needed to provide their service to us, and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

A few features load content from other services directly, under those services' own privacy policies:

YouTube and Vimeo — a listing can include a video. It loads from YouTube (using its privacy-enhanced mode) or Vimeo only after you press the play button. Loading it shares your IP address and browser details with that service.
Google Maps — each listing page shows an embedded Google map of the listing's location. Loading it shares your IP address and browser details with Google.

Location suggestions as you type a city or ZIP do not go to any outside service. They run in your browser against a list of US and Canadian places. That list is based on postal-code data from GeoNames, licensed under CC BY 4.0.

5. Cookies and Local Storage

We use your browser's local storage to keep you signed in between visits. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and our analytics are cookieless.

6. Data Retention

We keep your account and listing information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account yourself at any time from the My Account page; that permanently removes your profile, listings and listing photos, favorites and saved searches. You can also email us at info@rigpatrol.com and we'll take care of it. The short-lived anti-spam record described above is deleted automatically after 7 days. Sold listings stay visible, marked "Sold," for up to 60 days. Our database is backed up daily, and backups are kept for about a week, so deleted information can remain in a backup until it rolls off.

7. Data Security

We use industry-standard tools (encrypted connections, hashed passwords, access controls on our database) to protect your information. That said, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we will tell you as the law requires.

8. Children's Privacy

Rig Patrol is for adults. You must be at least 18 to create an account, and the Service is not directed at, and we do not knowingly collect information from, anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email info@rigpatrol.com and we will delete it.

9. Your Choices

You can review and update your account information at any time from your Account page. You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by emailing info@rigpatrol.com.

Depending on where you live (for example California), you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy, to correct it, and to have it deleted, and not to be treated differently for using these rights. Email us to make a request, and we may need to confirm it is really you. We don't sell your personal information or share it for advertising across other websites, and because we don't track you across sites, there is nothing for a "Do Not Track" signal to turn off.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above.
